Canucks have a tendency to start slow, I'm hoping Willie puts a kink in that for this season. Sounds like vrbata is a pretty easy guy to play with from what I've read so I'm hoping the sedins can come to life with a right hand shot. For me that's gonna be the player to watch in this camp, to see if he is getting into sync with hank and dank.

The options for pto are slim...

I agree with Carol, it has been a bit disappointing to not see Corrado and Jensen show a bit better. Maybe both their games are not flashy where you would see them dominate and put on a show, but just a bit more finish from Jensen would have been nice.

But it is early in the season and these are glorified scrimmages, if someone totally went off, we would be saying or (others would be saying... ) wait until main camp or the season starts to see if these performances can be repeated.

If they're looking to add 1 or 2 guys on PTOs, Penner isn't a bad option. Not really much available there.

What about Bracken Kearns, noticed his name on the list? Has done well in the minors but hasn't been able to get it going in the big show.... then again he may not have enough games to qualify as a regular...

Hey!

I haven't been here in a while.
I couldn't really follow the youngstars tournament, but did they already play with bigger offensive-zones?
Our "pro"-league here in Austria just started and 2 rounds in there is a lot more powerplay goals.
Do you think it will have the same impact on NA-sized rinks?

It costs nothing to invite pro players to camp for tryouts, I don't see the harm in it?

Starting to think prospects camp is just another delay before main camp where we will temper expectations with talk of the exhibition games as meaningless, wait for regular season to start and see lineups... and then the regular season we will wait until 20 games in to have any sort of evaluation and then we will have to wait until after Christmas break to see if this team really has a shot at the playoffs and then wait until all-star break to wonder what is going to happen at tdl and if we will be buyers or sellers and how much we are going to get for Miller...

Yes, drop the puck!

Need everyone from the pool last year to check in on the league's homepage. Thanks guys. Replacements will be made to teams available by Friday(the agreed upon folding teams will still be folded, but others will have new owners if they have not checked in).

Already have 3 people on stand bye to take over teams, if anyone else is interested shoot me a PM and you'll be 4th on the list. I know that we'll be replacing at least 3 teams for sure(by my count), and maybe more depending on who checks in.

Until the Canucks have the prospect depth, as Carol mentioned, that the other teams do, they'll continue to struggle in this tourney. Yes they have some nice prospects, but not the overall depth the other organizations have.

The price of being good for a long stretch of years. Well that and GMMG didn't know how to manage the assets we did have.

Yes I'm aware, but, we only have five or six higher/ish end prospects to begin with. Horvat, Virtanen, McCann, Jensen, Demko, Shinkaruk and perhaps Gaunce. Any type of injury and you seen what happens, thus the depth comment.

I think it has more to do with Burke, Nonis, and Gillis than it does with being good. I was just looking at Hockey Futures' list of top prospect teams:

1 - Buffalo
2 - Anaheim
3 - Detroit
4 - Chicago
5 - Tampa Bay

Three of the top five teams have been just as successful as the canucks have been over the past years and still rank in the top 5.

Poor management (trading picks for temp fixes, poor daft selections) is to blame for where we are today, not regular season success.

Agreed. That's why I said GMMG has a bunch to do with it as well. You can definitely add Nonuts in there too.

Yet not one of the above mentioned players have played a single NHL game. We did have a few players on our prospect squad that have played quite a few NHL games.

Those players should have at least stood out from the kids.

Poor draft selection was a big problem... Look at Detroit and where they were drafting and player selection... pulled some rabbits out of their hat for sure.

Surprised Edmonton and Calgary didn't make the list...

From a drafting/scouting perspective, there shouldn't be any throw away picks and the Canucks have had too many over the last decade.
